Illustration Graduation

Sandwiched between a fitness studio and a karate school, L’illustre galerie is the lonely outpost of visual arts on the Belgo’s first floor. The gallery is currently presenting a collection of illustrations titled La relève, a selection of works from the top graduating students of the Cégep de Sherbrooke.

Karine Bernier

All works are displayed without the text they are meant to illustrate, which forces the images to speak for themselves. The quality of the works is good, if a little mainstream. The most interesting illustrations in this exhibition are those by Karine Bernier, Étienne Aubert-Bonn, and Alexandre Michaud, who manage to weave some story-telling into their imagery.
The exhibition’s vernissage is tonight at 6pm. And I strongly suggest you bring a little spending money: all illustrations are for sale for a mere $20 (each)!
