Revealing Structures

Just launched at Les Territoires is the exhibition Et tout le reste qu’on ignore by artist Marie-Eve Lajoie.

Territoires-MELajoie

Lajoie’s installation is deceptively simple. Four hefty wooden columns span the space between the gallery’s floor and its ceiling, though about half way up there’s a missing section. The top part of the column, which seems to defy gravity, is made of orderly tongue-in-groove paneling, contrasted by the lower half, which is constructed out of an assembly of interlocking scrap wood of varying shades and grains. Lajoie’s aim is to reveal the hidden inner life of simple structures, and she does so elegantly through her careful choices of materials and complex geometry.
