The Grammar of Aesthetics

The Centre d’exposition CIRCA is showing two elegant installations by artist Gilbert Poissant in an exhibition titled Le Jeu du collectionneur.

CircaPoissant2

One installation consists of a series of random wooden found objects – domino pieces, bowls, shoe-trees, furniture ornaments – which are fixed in a single line flowing across the walls of the entire gallery at eye level. The objects range from the utilitarian to the decorative, some are whole, some in pieces. For this installation Poissant organized the objects by size and shape, removing their function and reducing them to pure form. The resulting line of shapes creates a beautiful “sentence” spoken in the language of geometry. The shapes of the wall installations are echoed in the contstructed wooden forms that make up the second installation. It is set up on a table in the centre of the gallery and re-reates a city scapes, playing on the archetectual features of Le Corbusier and Frank Lloyd Wright.
