Floating in the breeze at Galerie sas are the ephemeral works of fabric artist Jannick Deslauriers. For her series of installations and 2-D works titled Battle Field Deslauriers created groups of viruses and flowers, roots and bones, out of fragile tissue fabric which seems to disintegrate just by looking at it. The artist uses thin, black thread like a pencil line, stitching the delicate outlines of a rib cage, or the features of a sleeper caught in a dream. The ends of the threads trail into space, like the manifestations of an unfinished thought fading into memory. At once dreamlike and poetic, Deslauriers’ work speaks of vulnerability and beauty as much as of fear and death.
