Yves Gaucher

You need to fire up your grey matter as well as your eyes to fully appreciate the minimalists and colour field painters currently on show at Galerie Roger Bellemare. The exhibition Matière Grise features work by Jack Bush, Yves Gaucher, Stéphane La Rue, and Fernand Leduc. My personal favourite of the show is the large canvas by Jack Bush titled Ideas of the Good dating back to 1958. It’s a gorgeous, dynamic abstract, perfectly balanced, forceful, with an incredible presence in the room. I think Jack Bush is much under-appreciated as an artist, hopefully Bellemare will show us more of his work soon!
