A symphony of white awaits you at Galerie Lilian Rodriguez, who currently presents the ceramic works Les attrape-vents by Marie A. Côté.
Perched on graceful wooden stands are a series of ceramic cones the size of gramophone speakers. Each cone is creamy white and smooth on the outside, but reveals a structure of flowing, rippling waves on the inside. It’s as though a sound passing through the cone has left its delicate imprint. On the wall behind the sculpture hangs a long sheet of paper which the artist used as a ground cover when she created her ceramic pieces. The paper absorbed the moisture from the ceramic clay and recreated similar, if somewhat amplified undulating waves as it dried. Standing in front of each cone you’ll see the light slowly being absorbed with each wave, revealing in sharp, bright contrast the texture of the paper visible through the open end of the sculpture. The purity of the white ceramic and the white paper enhance the textures of the echoing waves, creating an installation which speaks of the waves of sound, of air, and of light in a clear and elegant voice.
