There’s a new kid on the block. About a week ago Galerie Division opened its doors on the Belgo’s third floor with its inaugural exhibition Prismatic Spray. It’s a strong, colourful show, and I’ll review more of the individual artists on display in later posts. But for now I’ll focus on my personal favourite Sonia Haberstich and her vibrant pom-pom series.

Haberstich fixed fluffy, brightly coloured pom-poms of various sizes onto plastic supports, creating joyous and irresistibly tactile works. It was as though I was looking at a Seurat at extreme close-up, but funnier. Haberstich’s work pokes fun Op-Art, a fairly macho, hard-edged art style which she successfully infuses with humor and a touch of feminism.
