If you’re looking for a new spring wardrobe, drop by galerie sas for a fresh take on fashion.
Artist Martine Lemieux presents her series Décousue (lit. “un-sewn”), a series of canvases onto which she has sewn actual items of clothing. Entire shirts, pants, and scarves are stitched to the surface, twisted, ruffled, crumpled and tangled – it’s an orgy of discarded fashion. Lemieux approaches colour not from the perspective of an artist, but uses her experience as a fashion designer to colour-code her pieces: black is chique, blue is casual, red is sexy. Nearly all of her works are monochromes, to underline how fashion creates consensus: like socializes with like. I also thought that the cardboard tags dangling from the corner of each artwork are a nice touch.
Now I just need to wait until they go on sale…
