Opening soon at Projex Mtl galerie is the exhibition Jeunes Artistes by established Montreal artist Susan G. Scott.

Scott has been a faculty member at Concordia University since 1984, and in this series of paintings on paper she captures the dynamic life of the studio arts. All paintings feature an art student at work: seated in front of an easle, mixing paints, or reaching for the top of the canvas while perched on a chair. Often the picture plan is divided into two halves – the right half showing the artist in action, the left half re-creating the painting the artist was working on. Scott’s works are closer to sketching than painting; the rapid, watercolour-style brushstrokes give the impression as though she created these works in situ, which must have been a bit unnerving for her art students…
The exhibition opens this Saturday, May 3, 2008 with a vernissage from 3:00pm – 6:00pm. The artist will be present.
