Table Des Matières – Luc Bergeron at Les Territoires

Table Des Matières - Bergeron

This exhibition project stems from two ideas.

First, I revisit my previous work, including ten years spent exploring landscape, in order to address a set of recurrent formal issues arising both in my figurative and abstract paintings. In this pictorial index characteristic of my practice, I deal with the superposition of materials and with what comprises painting as such, with its material slices, or even with its gaps which accentuate the motif’s presence/absence.

I then place this index in the gallery space by installing the studio there, which is both an open and closed space in which objects, images, and fragmented works in the process of becoming (which comprise the spirit of the space) are accumulated. I make use of bookcases, windows, and worktables to display drawings, plaster sculptures, photographs and paintings that have a bearing on art and motifs related to the landscape and to the figure. Prefiguring works to come, I question the interaction between all such elements and the variegated ways in which they succeed in taking part in the creative process, thereby finding their way into a totality that appears eclectic.

This is an exhibition encompassing as many readings as there as avenues to explore. This work can be read as an unveiling of the components of my practice, as well as a game that toys with my imaginary.
