Jason Gowans’ recent work takes a variety of forms including: installation, photography, video, curation, and collaboration. At its essence, the artist’s practice is characterized by the theme of transference. Gowans is interested in how cultures, ideas, and imagery become both altered and influential throughout time. Appropriating iconic imagery and objects allows for an understanding of this transference. Repetition and a product aesthetic are employed to illustrate the significance of appropriation, reinterpretation and repackaging within western culture. His work represents a continuous investigating on how he (and others) consume and advocate cultural ideas and symbols.
