During these workshops, the group of artists will create a collaborative work that will that will be presented at Les Territoires in June 2012. ELAN’s Portfolio Days
October 14-16, 2011

This October, ELAN invites artists interested in learning how to sustain a professional artistic practice in Quebec and Canada to participate in Portfolio Days.

Portfolio Days is a three day professional development event consisting of a preparatory panel discussion and two one-on-one evaluations. Participants will expand their skills and independent thinking to develop a sustainable creative practice.
On Day 1, a panel discussion offers artists the opportunity to better understand their community and context through a comprehensive view of how art is produced and presented. In this discussion the role of the art presenter (programming officer, gallery owner, artistic director or curator) and exhibition space (gallery, artist run centre, museum or festival) will be explored. Participants will be given an overview of essential grant-writing techniques, budgets, timelines and helpful tips to improve grant writing skills.

Then two days of portfolio evaluations with knowledgeable art reviewers and jury members will give individually-tailored feedback on participants’ artistic practice and written materials. These one-on-one sessions will incIude an aesthetic evaluation of the participants’ work, a discussion of the ideas in development, and direction for the future. A second evaluation session will provide feedback on CVs, bio, artist statements, art proposals, budgets and visual documentation.
