Need something to cheer you up? Make sure you see the retrospective of works by caricaturist Patrick Dea at L’illustre galerie.
L’illustre presents 40 caricatures spanning 25 years of Dea’s works for publications such as Revue Safair, Revue Kamikaz, and La Presse. The lion share of the exhibit are full-colour gouaches and acrylics featuring icons of the worlds of pop and politics: Nicolas Cage, Mr. Bean, George W. Bush, Stéphane Dion, to name but a few. Dea’s realistic, detailed style is light-hearted, though some of his drawings do carry a bit of a sting (like the drawing of Dubya hiding an Ossama costume in his closet). There are also some black-and-white editorial caricatures which pack more of a punch. All in all, “Groovy, baby!”
