The Belgo’s Suite 413 has temporarily converted into an art gallery, presenting the exhibition An Atlas of Searches by Emily Mennerdahl.
Mennerdahl’s works on show all revolve around the theme of sound – and the absence thereof. Her works are witty visual puns and thought experiments, transforming ordinary objects and processes into a lyrical search for silence. I especially liked her little sculpture Ninety-six Hours of Silence which is a ball made of 24 wax earplugs. Simple, but it tells the story. And if you’re looking for something to do over the weekend, try Mennerdahl’s method of turning any book into a song, following her instructions of How to Make Words Into Music: take any text and keep only the letters of the musical score in each word. One sentence is one bar. Then play.
I’m now off to browse my bookshelf…
