Pierre Julien‘s vivid hard-edge abstract paintings currently on exhibition at Galerie Nicolas Robert vibrate with colour. Floating on perfectly smooth, flat colour fields, small geometric forms shimmer, their sharp edges breathing, blurring, radiating.
By removing all figurative references, Julien allows the spectator to make an emotional connection to the colours – complementary reds and greens refuse to harmonize, orange and magenta try to outshine each other, peach and copper quietly co-exist.
As the hues push and pull against each other, the canvases appear to move, and colour becomes an added dimension.
