Galerie sas presents a series of photographs titled Dorea by Marie-Reine Mattera and Emmanuel Joly.

The two artists met by chance while researching a photo-shoot location. They discovered the infamous Institute Dorea, a school for “difficult” children and an orphanage. The photos of the Dorea series are sparsely lit, capturing blurred silhouettes that feel threatening and ominous. The low camera angle creates an atmosphere of implied violence, conjuring up the demons of the now abandoned site.
