You have until the end of the week to visit Galerie Joyce Yahouda and see the installation Glaçage by Diane Gougeon.
This piece consists of two elements. One wall is covered with wild coils of refrigeration tubing stretched across at eye level. The tubes absorb the humidity of the gallery space and are covered with ice crystals, creating both an engaging visual display as well as changing the temperature of the room. The bottom of this wall is covered with pop-art-style decorative flower shapes which glow purplish in ultraviolet light, reminiscent of ice crystals forming on a window pane. Another wall holds an electromagnetic dot display board which continually writes the phrase “Que sera, sera”. The changing dots create a torrent of little clicks which to me sound like rain falling on a roof. Dougeon’s aim is to illustrate the artificiality of our perception of nature, as it is either manipulated by man-made devices or filtered and re-interpreted through communication tools.
